My fifth grade girls have been studying Asia in History and Geography this quarter, so I have been incorporating Asian art into their projects to make the cross-curricular connection (like the Sumi-e painting workshop we had two weeks ago). Using the slab method of clay handbuilding, my class created these adorable kimono sculptures after learning about the traditional Japanese clothing and viewing some pictures from my own trip to Japan a few summers ago.
