Lower School Art Club

In addition to Ceramics Club for students in the MS, I am also offering LS Art Club on Thursdays after school, and it starts today! Club is already full for the fall, but you can sign up now for the spring already if you're in 8th-10th age. I haven't taught lower schoolers in a while, so I am excited to have fun with this age group and do new types of projects with them...

For our first project, we'll be creating woven kimono out of paper. I was inspired to create this lesson after my trip to Japan this summer, where I was obsessed with the beautiful Japanese women walking around in their traditional attire. Stay tuned for pics of the kids' projects, but in the meantime, check out some of my favorite kimono-clad women from my trip:

I snapped this picture of a geisha on her way to an evening appointment in Gion. Not only is she wearing a gorgeous detailed kimono, but her traditional hair and makeup are simply stunning!

This little girl was so cute posing for this picture. Japanese youth display the "peace sign" when they pose for pictures, though I am not sure why!
