Lower School Art Camp

This week in LS Art Camp was a whirlwind... we had a ton of fun and made a LOT of projects... I will let the photos do most of the describing:

On the first morning, we made wind chimes out of clay- the pieces were cut from rolled slabs of clay and the top were pinch pots. I didn't remember to take any other pics of them as they were glazed and fired- oops!

 Don't let this smile fool you... this project was hard work! Over the course of a couple of days, campers stuck pins and assorted nails into Pringles cans (2 cans per camper = 38 cans of Pringles!) to create rain sticks- I thought I might be absolutely nuts giving tiny straight pins to young kids, but we had not ONE stick with a pin!!

 Creating beautiful paintings of vases of flowers (some flowers are hand prints):

 Creating collagraph printmaking squares- foam shapes on chipboard. They were later printed on colored paper but I forgot to take photos of the final products!

 Glazed ceramic flip flops out of the kiln- I didn't get pics of campers glazing and accidentally wrapped these all up to go home before taking more pictures:

 Finished ice cream cones- complete with shiny Mod Podge surface and cherries on top!

 Finished vase paintings (I took these photos outside in the sun- they aren't this blown out in real life):

 Painting plastic sheeting and the inside of dome cup lids with glitter medium and acrylic paint- we later cut the plastic into strips, as well as iridescent film and glued it all together to make jellyfish mobiles:

 Painting rain sticks (we covered them with paper mache after finishing with all the pins and nails and filling them with various beans and beads- they sounded amazing):

 Friday ice cream sundae party (an Art Camp tradition!):

 We tie-dyed our white camp t-shirts on Tuesday and they were sent home Wednesday to be washed and were ready to wear by the end of the week:

 Hope to see some of these smiling faces again in camp next summer!

Middle School Art Camp

The past week in Middle School Art Camp was SUPER FUN! The campers were instructed to bring their own wooden chair to create a whimsical and fabulous painting on...

Day one, of course it POURED RAIN the moment we needed to go outside to sand all the furniture... thankfully we have a lovely covered gazebo that accommodated everyone while they used a little elbow grease to remove any finished surfaces (you can see how hot and steamy it was because my camera got all foggy in the second pic!):

 After the surfaces were sanded and primed, campers got to work painting their unique designs on their chairs (or bedroom door, or mailbox!):

And, the pieces as they went home on Friday... AMAZING, right?!

Meanwhile, mid-week we realized we needed to get out of the paint-fumed room and get some fresh air so we starting taking daily walks to Royal Farms for slurpees and candy. Here is a cute photo as we walked back via the trail...
