Field Trip to Glassblowing Studio!

On March 3rd, the 8th grade art class took a field trip to Corradetti Glass Studio in Clipper Mill to make hot glass flowers. I posted about the process last year when we went on the same trip, so you can read more about it here. Here are photos of the artists in action!

Fifth graders' printmaking projects are on display and looking good. After taking a digital photograph and reducing it to black and white lines/shapes, the girls transferred their image onto a rubber-like material. They used a special tool called a "gouge" to carve away the positive space and then used various printing inks and papers to make a series of colorful prints. We even made our own dyed paper to use as a printing surface. The girls chose their six favorite prints to include on their "You Cube" and some added embellishments and personal writing to their final piece.

The eighth graders' paintings are on display at the Evergreen for a whole month! I went to hang them up last Friday and the response from Evergreen customers was unbelievable. I am not exaggerating... THREE people asked me if they were for sale! If you have a chance, stop in to see them and I promise you will be impressed- here's a quick photo I snapped with my phone's camera:

Portraits in Pencil After M.C. Escher (1943)

Seventh graders completed their M.C. Escher inspired self portraits this week and they are on display in the MS! To create thier portraits, students used the grid method to draw the contour lines of their portrait from a digital photograph. After erasing their grid lines, students used drawing pencils to shade their portraits. We held a critique along the way and the results are quite impressive! (These photographs are not the best, since I took them once the work was hanging up and the lighting is less than perfect)

Coffee Break Round 2!

After missing 5 classes due to snow closings and a field trip, my eighth grade art class stayed to paint for four hours during Parent Teacher Conference time last Tuesday and their completed acrylic paintings look AWESOME! Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
