First quarter Sixth graders created these whimsical banks out of clay and they're ready to start saving their pennies! Most of the creations started out as two pinch pots scored and "cream cheesed" together to create a nice hollow egg shape. Details and additional features were added according to the design using a variety of clay building techniques.

Hello! I am also a MS art teacher doing a very similar project with my students. I am curious how you created a stopper for the hole on the underside of the bank- the one used for the coins to come out. I was thinking cardboard somehow? How did you solve this? The rubber stoppers are too expensive to purchase in my budget right now.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the help!
Laura
Hi Laura- I did order rubber stoppers from a science catalog. I am sure you could use cardboard or even have the kids brainstorm ideas- they usually come up with better ideas than we adults do!
DeleteDo you know what size rubber stoppers?
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, I don't know! I just looked to see if I still had any left in some packaging that would indicate that, but I do not. You could prob also get corks at a crafts store I think... Just make sure whatever size you get is big enough for money to fit through!
DeleteWhat is the best glaze for the upside down ice cream? Do you get gloss glaze or under glaze. This is for K-3 students.
ReplyDeleteAll of my students used underglaze for coloring, then each was topped with two coats of glossy overglaze
