Anticipation

The students aren't the only ones who get butterflies the day before school starts. I am already anticipating tossing and turning in my bed tonight, waking up a little too early, worrying about what I am going to wear... But it's the same thing every year- once the kids start filing in my room, all of the anxiety goes away and I know we will soon settle into the comfort of the art room, excited to explore and experiment and make mistakes and have fun.

A very busy maintenance crew has been busy polishing my room to a shiny, beautiful blank canvas. I have spent a week and half putting out fresh erasers and newly sharpened pencils, piling up reams of paper and pounds of clay, and opening boxes like a little kid on Christmas morning. Within all of it there is such potential and energy, and that is really exciting. It's going to be a great year.

(this is neatest my desk and this room will ever be! I should post again in about a month to compare :))

  1. Great room! I wish I had the wall space for all of those wonderful posters that you have displayed. Yes, we all have clean, neat rooms in the beginning, but soon, mine too will show how busy the students have been. I guess that's the price we pay for all of the right-brained creativity that goes on in Art! Have a super year in Art! Cynthia

  2. How about a close up of those posters by the sink? :)

  3. I know I am commenting on an older post, but I had a question about your Shelves that sit on top of your cabinets...did someone make those for you or did they come with the classroom? I have a classroom where it has NO cabinets attached on the wall only counter space and it's just constant clutter since I can't store anything away.

    1. They were here before I came but they were definitely hand-built by our maintenance department. I can tell!
