Art Rocks!

Fifth grade boys became industrial designers for this project, considering the factors that might go into the design and function of a guitar. Students looked at images of different kinds of guitars before creating their own working sketches. In this assignment, all of the different parts of the guitar (body, neck, head, bridges, tuners, etc.) went along with a theme... we had hamburger/french fry/coke, skis/boots/snowflakes, spaghetti and meatballs, sun/moon/rocket ships and more! Using foam board and cardboard to construct their instruments, the boys designed and painted their life-size, imaginative sculptures of their dream guitar! (You might imagine there was a fair share of “air guitar” being played over the course of the project- Art really does rock!)
