These birdhouses were created by Ceramics Club members as their first project. These photos really don't do them justice- in person the pieces are just so whimsical, vibrantly colored and FUN (and are about 8" tall)! I love them!

Here are the birdhouses on display in the case near the main office- they look FANTASTIC! Make sure to stop by and check them out in person:
Hi! I am a middle school art teacher from Georgia.. (AMAZING blog by the way...I've come across it many times on Pinterest). I LOVE these bird houses and I am considering using this idea for a clay project with my 8th graders...I'm curious for a little more info on the process...I'm guessing the wall of the house are made from a rolled slab....how is the roof created? How do you make sure it will fit the walls? Any specific measurements? I would love any tips!
ReplyDeleteThe whole thing is slabs- I just created a template out of paper for the base, as well as the roof. no special measurements- it just depends on how bit you want them! Ours were about 6" tall without the roof. It was a little tricky to make the cone template for the roof. I just made one from paper that worked size-wise, trimmed off any extra paper and undid it to get the flat shape to use as a traceable template. I hope this makes sense!
