Nothing is more basic than
having access to healthy food, yet more than 300,000 central Maryland residents
are food insecure due to limited funds and lack of other resources such as
nearby grocery stores and transportation. United Way of Central Maryland’s
“Access to Healthy Food Initiative” is a three year program that aims to
increase access to healthy food by 1.5 million pounds each year. For the third
year in a row, Calvert will be helping with this cause by conducting a Fresh
Food Drive next week (October 14-18), which will directly benefit local Baltimore City school
children in need of healthy food. Last year we collected 2,055.2 lbs… over a
TON of food (1,276 lbs in the Lower School and 779.2 lbs in the MS) and we hope
to beat that total this year! You can help by bringing in bags of fresh vegetables
and fruit including sweet potatoes, squashes, root vegetables like beets,
radishes and carrots, green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, apples and oranges.
Drop off your food donations first thing in the morning in the boxes outside of
the MS Black Box Theatre… THANK YOU!
