Rain Barrel

The Science Department at Calvert is working toward making us a "Green School" in a number of ways. One such way is by recently planting a rain garden (a planted depression that allows rainwater runoff from areas like roofs, driveways, walkways, parking lots, and compacted lawn areas the opportunity to be absorbed rather than make its way out to the bay) outside of the Middle School. In the corner of the garden sits a rain barrel which collects the storm water runoff and essentially waters the rain garden. Well, the barrel was a big, ugly, white eyesore, so they asked me if I could do something about that! Luckily, I have had a high school senior from a neighboring school interning in my room for the whole month, and this was just the project for her! She completed the painting in about three days and everyone is quite impressed! Once it is installed in its permanent location, I will update this post with more photos... Isn't it awesome?!
