Middle School Fine Arts Festival

Yesterday, about 25 Calvert students attended the Annual Middle School Fine Arts Festival at Gilman. My part of this event started back in January when I had to create five 28"x22" boards featuring about fifteen pieces of exemplary artwork from Calvert Middle Schoolers. The boards joined those from seven other area schools- Boys Latin, RPCS, Bryn Mawr, St Pauls, Roland Park Public Elem/Middle, Gilman, and Friends- and the show traveled from school to school since January (it was at Calvert for about 9 days in February and on display in the Atrium). The Traveling Show ends at the school that hosts the Fine Arts Festival, this year Gilman. The Festival itself is a really unique and fun event. Each of the eight schools has about 10 minutes to do drama scenes, chorus and band numbers, etc. and there is also a slideshow of the traveling show artworks that runs in between performances, so the artists are also invited to attend. It was neat to hear the kids cheer as their work appeared on the big screen, and especially great to spend the afternoon celebrating the ARTS with a lot of talented students!

A view of the audience before the program began- it was PACKED!
