Greek Pottery

In this project, seventh graders created a Greek inspired vase out of red low-fire clay using the coil method of clay hand-building. Students chose which pot style they wanted to create out of ten possibilities. After constructing their coiled vase, students chose the imagery to paint based on their shape and did so using either a black-figure or red-figure style (Click HERE to read about the styles in an earlier post). I LOVE these, don't you?!

  1. These pots came out beautiful. What type of glazes did you use on them? I occasionally buy the red clay and I think its fun to work with. We used it for sgraffito plates. The red showing through looks great with the black glaze. I love your web site. I recently found the logo with the art web sites. Doesnt seem like there are many middle school blogs.
